• Security Measures

  
  War Memorial & Performing Arts Center Security Measures 

  • Starting with the September 13 performance of Rigoletto, the War Memorial & Performing Arts Center will begin a fast, frictionless patron screening system that will not require patrons to stop, empty their pockets, or open their bags.
  • These systems will be located on the north and south carriage entrances, and the main entrance on Van Ness. Tickets will be scanned before they are screened. 
    
    
  • Patrons or visitors with medically implanted devices may enter through the system as it is considered safe with low risk. Patrons can check with their doctor or proceed through a secondary screening location where they will be screened with handheld wands.

  • All bags are subject to search upon arrival.  Currently, clear bags are not required.
    
    
  • Patrons may bring bags into the auditorium, but they must fit under the seat or on the patron’s lap (approximately 14 in. x 14 in. x 6 in.).
    
    
  • Patrons with large items, inclusive of, but not limited to large backpacks, luggage, shopping bags, and other large packages that will not fit comfortably at the seat will be asked to check those items at coat check.
    
    
  • The War Memorial Performing Arts Center reserves the right to screen patron bags upon request.
• Seating Policy

  
  Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the performance. Once the performance begins, we do not allow late seating during the performance.

  Late comers, as well as those who leave the theater during the performance, can stand in Standing Room or relax with food and drink to watch the performance on the monitor in the bar.

• Walking Groups

  
  If you are walking to BART, MUNI, Civic Center Garage, or UC Law SF Garage, you can join a walking group led by our friendly Civic Center Ambassadors so you won’t have to walk alone at night!

  Walking groups meet outside the front entrance of the War Memorial Opera House on Van Ness, and leave 15 minutes after the conclusion of evening performances. They will be on the north side of the main entrance steps on Van Ness holding a sign. Look for the Civic Center Ambassadors wearing bright orange vests!

• Donating Your Tickets

  
  Unable to use or exchange your tickets? Call the Box Office at (415) 864-3330 any time prior to your performance to donate your tickets for an in-kind donation receipt. Ticket donations are not treated as cash gifts, and do not apply toward annual giving levels or membership benefits. For questions, please consult your tax advisor.
